What the Bible says about Dating??

The quick answer….nothing. But, we can understand the value’s that God has shown us and apply them to dating.

We had a great study with the youth last night and it really opened my eyes to a new point of view on dating. Even if dating is not something you don’t currently deal with (ie: your married) there is still a lesson in how to follow Christ in all aspects of our lives here.

I will try to recall Terrell’s (the youth guy) thoughts as best I can. So lets start here.

1 Thessalonians 4

3It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4that each of you should learn to control his own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable, 5not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;

Let’s make this quick and easy here. Sex is not the problem Lust is. (they mentioned that there may be a book by this title out there)

When you set aside a person that you say its ok to be physical with, this is going to cause problems. Even if you draw a line in the sand and say…only kissing. That does not solve the lust issue, you are still harboring and growing lust in your heart as well as the desire to cross that line and move to the next stop. It’s only natural, we were designed for sex, but we must exhibit self control.

As crazy as it might sound…Avoiding all physical intimacy before marriage seems to the only way to follow God’s perfect plan. Pretty interesting stuff if you ask me.

(if you are not convinced I can add more scripture that we can look at: but i was trying not to make this one too long)
