So tonight is the premiere of the FINAL season of LOST. Which means…yes I’m watching. I love it, definitely one of my favorite shows but that’s not what this blog is about.

Lost is a word that “Christians” use a lot, some call it Christianese. Meaning it’s a word that has a special meaning to believers or in the context of the bible. For the same idea the word unsaved is used a lot too.

Everyone begins their life in a lost or unsaved condition. (Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.)

Ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the beginning there has been a separation between humans and God. We are born as sinners, imperfect and falling short of God’s standards.

Sin has some serious eternal consequences. (Romans 6:23  The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.) And that death means eternal separation from God, which more specifically means hell.

So that leaves us in a really tough spot. Sinners from birth, falling short of God’s standard and doomed for hell because of it. Thankfully God loves us so much he didn’t let that be the end of the story. He made a way for us to escape our situation.

Jesus came to earth as God in the flesh to pay our debt. Jesus endured that death that was meant to be ours and he overcame death so that we would be able to spend eternity with God in heaven and not be separated from Him because of our sin.

So what do you have to do to accept this free gift? (called salvation, because we are saved from the eternal consequences of our sin)

Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

There are no hoops to jump through. No acts of service that are required for you to leave that Lost condition. What you must do is confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that he died for your sins and was raisied again to life.  Basically, believe that what the Bible says about Jesus is the truth.

Are you Lost? Have accepted God’s free gift of salvation? He wants you too.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

God loves YOU, personally. There is no one that he has given up on. He is ready and willing to forgive you of all your mistakes. No matter what you have done, you can accept his free gift. This is the start of your relationship with God, no previous knowledge necessary.

If you want to accept his salvation, what you you say to God (pray) might sound something like this. ” God I ask you to forgive me of my sin and save me. I believe you died on the cross and paid the price for my sin and rose to life again. Come into my heart and make me a new person and help me live my life the way you want me to”
