Is Torture ever ok?

I found an interesting article today at www.christianitytoday.com The article states that “62 percent of white evangelicals believe torture of suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified.”

A very interesting thought. Definitely some room here for different points of view.

I could see that one view would say that torture is wrong period. We are called to love everyone and we should never allow even our worst enemies to be tortured. We would not want other countries to torture Christians or American POW’s so why would we do this to others? Many say that the information gathered will save thousands of lives but is it worth the torture of another human?

We need to make sure we carefully think about these issues before we quickly jump to any conclusion. Some might compare this to the possible benefits of using embrionic stem cells, do the means justifty the ends there?  Food for thought… and even though it’s painfully overused this situation does remind me of the ever famous phrse WWJD.

What do you think? let me know by leaving a comment.
