lent (this has nothing to do with your bellybutton)

lent07Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday…this is what Wikipedia has to say about lent…

Lent, in some Christian denominations, is the forty-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter.[1]Jesus spent in the desert, where according to the Bible he endured temptation by Satan.[2] Different churches calculate the forty days differently. The forty days represent the time

The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer—through prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial—for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In Western Christianity (with the exception of the Archdiocese of Milan which follows the Ambrosian Rite), Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Saturday.

I dont know if you celebrate lent…..maybe you never have. I was not raised in a church that really talked about lent and didn’t really know what it was until a few years ago. Even if you dont officially celebrate Lent…you’ve got to admit its not such a bad idea.  Just like new years eve can remind us to make changes in our life, so can lent. Its a great reminder to us that, our relationship to God is the most important thing we have. Anything that is in our lives and hindering our relationship with him should be removed. Maybe my only issue with lent is that it only lasts for 40 days. We should constantly be in a state of removing things that hurt our walk with God. So, this is not a commercial for lent but more an encouragement to make your relationship with Christ what you truly want it to be and not let things of this world cloud your judgment.
